Here is the checklist for new coaches
Requirements to be a Travel Soccer Coach (Head or Assistant)
Must have at minimum a Valid Rutgers Safety Training Course
The league normally conducts one of these classes or you can attend one that the Sports Boosters conducts.
Must be approved by the Raiders Board
All new assistant and head coaches must be approved by the Raiders Board members. At the completion of the June tryouts, a date, time, and place will be communicated on our website for all new coaches. If a coach is added during the season then they will be reviewed at the next Raiders Board Meeting.
Must be mentored by a fellow coach and meet the requirements necessary of every coach in our club
All new coaches will need to be mentored and assited by an existing Raider coach. This will ensure a smooth transition into the club and its policy and procedures. The Board will appoint the mentor for the new coach.

Phone Tree
Many teams use an automated phone tree service called One Call Now. This allows you to send information, changes to a schedule, reminders, etc. to all your team parents in a matter of minutes. The system is easy to use and is a great way to get the same message out to all the parents on your team in the least amount of time and effort. You can purchase the service for six months or for a full year. Click here for OneCallNow
Trainers
Each team is required to use the New York Red Bulls Training Program at least once per week:
Currently Frank Gatta manages this activity
Administrative Paperwork
All teams now use US Club Soccer. Each player’s birth certificate must be scanned and uploaded to their system when the player’s information is setup. In addition, each player will need to submit a combined player registration and medical release that each team holds onto and the club needs a copy of it.
The following is required to authorize your team for play and you will need the following from each player on your team:
- Birth Certificate - Ask for two copies so that you can hand one in when the card is created and you can also keep one for your files.
- Player Registration/Medical Release Form - This is only necessary the first time a player is setup and registered.
- Picture of player - cannot be reproduced via a computer printer but rather needs to be a photograph.
In addition all the coaches will need the following:
- Staff Backgrond Check Application - This form is to be completed online.
Player Fees
The fee for each player is $300 per player with a maximum of $600 per family. This money must be collected prior to the team being registered with NCSA to ensure that you have enough players to make the team. The online registration allows for credit card purchasing and NO TEAM/PLAYER will be registered until the fees are paid.
Some teams that use trainers extensively, go to more tournaments, additional winter training, etc. will collect more money at the start of the season versus having to collect it multiple times during the season. Each coach will communicate the exact amount that they will need to collect from each parent.
Budget
All registrations must be entered and processed through our website and the online registration process.
There is a $25 per player charge that is deducted from each team for the online registration fee.
Any time money is collected form the parents it must be paid to the Mahwah Raiders so that there are not separate checking accounts.
All monies will be deposited into your team’s budget and you will then send expense reports to the treasurer with attached receipts in order to be reimbursed.
During the season you will receive a budget report detailing all your activity for your team.
NCSA Roster
You can print this on your game day from the US Club Soccer site.
Parent’s meeting
Having a meeting with the parents without the players involved is a great way to set the expectations of the team and club. At a minimum you need to have a meeting prior to the start of the Spring and Fall seasons, and one right after the June tryouts when the team has been formed. The meeting right after tryouts is very important as it is when new players and parents are coming to together for the first time, you can complete all the paperwork required by the league and the club, and collect all monies to properly register the player.
Parent’s Auxiliary
Each team must have a representative for the PA. The PA team is vital to accomplishing many of the administration, goals, and fundraisers that happen each year.
